Blown up by a mine, but survived and got married. The story of a fighter who is collecting money for a prosthesis

Amazing love stories happen in war: one of them happened in the life of 22-year-old soldier Serhii Kostyuchenko.

The guy blew himself up with a mine on the anniversary of meeting his beloved Yulia. He miraculously survived, but lost his arm.

Because of the injury, Serhiy decided to leave his beloved, but she looked for the boy and proposed marriage.

Now the couple is waiting for the fighter’s rehabilitation, and the Nezlamni center together with the charity platform Dobro.ua are collecting money for a prosthesis.

The story of Serhiy and Yulia was told on the Facebook page of the First Medical Association of Lviv.

“The autumn sun is shining. My gaze is caught by Yuli’s wedding ring, which shines brightly on her hand. She wears it on her left hand. Like her Serhiy. Because he doesn’t have a right hand,” writes Iryna Zaslavets, development director of the First Medical Association.

Sergiy Kostyuchenko from Zhytomyr Oblast is 22 years old. He was still a teenager with his father on the Maidan.

“He says: he always wanted to defend his homeland. That’s why he signed a contract two years ago. He was in the East.

In February, he and his brothers were transferred near Kyiv. Irpin, Bucha, Moschun. Next is Luhansk,” the medical association says.

The day of the injury, May 29, was supposed to be special for Serhiy and Yulia, because it is the anniversary of the couple’s acquaintance.

Serhiy wanted to excuse himself to go to his beloved, but he received a task and did not even have time to congratulate the girl.

Serhii was in the field when the shelling began. He remembers only the explosion.

When he opened his eyes, his right hand was gone, his left was damaged, and his legs were cut.

Serhiy could not even stand up and call for help, because his lung was torn.
