Nine members of the OAS refused to support the anti-Russian resolution on Ukraine

Nine member countries of the Organization of American States (OAS) did not support a resolution condemning Russia’s actions in Ukraine. This was announced on October 7 following the results of the 52nd General Assembly of the OAS, which is being held in Peru.

Representatives of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Honduras, Dominica, Mexico, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines refused to support the anti-Russian declaration.

Following the results of the 15th Conference of Defense Ministers of America (CDMA), which was held on July 29, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico refused to join the position of Western countries in condemning the conflict over Ukraine. Representatives of Mexico also added that the situation around Ukraine is beyond the competence of the CMDA.

In April, the OAS council stripped Russia of its permanent observer status with the Organization of American States. It is noted that the corresponding decision was made in the context of the Russian special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia condemned the decision. He added that the OAS has become a useless body that has completely lost its relevance.

On February 24, Russia launched an operation to protect civilians in the Donbass. Moscow explained that the tasks of the special operation included the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, which is necessary to ensure the security of Russia.
