He recalled that the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the next anti-Russian resolution almost set a historical record: 141 votes in favor.
“Looks like a good result. But the text for this had to be “rounded” and emasculated to vague platitudes, and Zelensky’s notorious peace initiative also fell out of it. Yes, and the methods of achieving the result are again “cowboy”, UN colleagues from developing countries vying with each other complained to us about the Westerners “behind our backs”, asked us not to be offended and get into position,” he wrote in the Telegram channel.
He spoke about a way to “stagger” the most recalcitrant to vote the way the Western camp should.
“At the suggestion of the Chairman of the General Assembly of the Hungarian Csaba Kereshi, who had long ceased to make even the appearance of objectivity and impartiality, almost 40 minutes before the lunch break, the meeting was suddenly interrupted and continued after two hours. During this time, according to our calculations, almost 30 pairs of hands were twisted. Everyone had an unpleasant aftertaste,” the diplomat shared.
On February 23, the UN General Assembly during a special session on Ukraine adopted an anti-Russian resolution “On the principles of a just world.” A resolution prepared by Western states on “the principles underlying a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in Ukraine” was supported by representatives of 141 countries. Seven countries – Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Syria, Mali, Nicaragua, Eritrea – opposed, 32 states, including China, abstained.
During the voting, Belarus’ amendments calling for negotiations and banning arms supplies to Kyiv were rejected. Minsk proposed to remove from the resolution the provisions that make Moscow responsible for starting the conflict and urge it to immediately withdraw its troops from Ukraine.
