Pozdnyakov announced the work of the IOC on the problem of non-admission of athletes from the Russian Federation

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) continues to look for a solution to the problem of preventing Russian athletes from competing. This was announced on September 14 by Stanislav Pozdnyakov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), following an online meeting at which the suspension of athletes from Russia and Belarus was discussed.

“She reasonably and consistently voiced the position of the Russian athlete community, emphasizing the fact that the exclusion of athletes from competitions has a negative impact not only on those who are under sanctions, but also on all world sports and on the integrity of the Olympic movement. The meeting participants from the IOC, in response, assured that they continue to look for a solution to the problem and maintain the necessary contacts with the Russian side, ”Pozdnyakov wrote on the Telegram channel.

On September 7, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said that all necessary measures were being taken to convince the IOC and international federations that the Olympic Games would lose their significance without Russian athletes.

On July 11, IOC member Craig Reedy assessed the chances of Russian athletes participating in the Olympics as unlikely. An obstacle to participation in the 2024 Olympics for Russian athletes will be the lack of qualification, which starts two years before the Games. The exceptions are cycling, judo and tennis.

Earlier, on July 1, the Minister of Sports and Tourism of Poland, Kamil Bortnichuk, said that ministers for sports from 33 states spoke out for the suspension of the membership of Russia and Belarus in international sports federations, signing a corresponding statement.

On June 19, the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, said that the time had not yet come to revise the recommendations on the suspension of Russian athletes.

After the start of Russia’s special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass, the IOC recommended that international sports federations prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions.
