“Several villages a day.” Liberation of Kharkiv region through the eyes of the military and local

The operation to liberate Kharkiv region shocked the whole world. Military experts call it one of the most successful operations since World War II.

In five days, the Ukrainian military managed to free 338 settlements, in which about 150 thousand people live, to capture more than 300 units of military equipment, a huge amount of weapons and ammunition.

We walked the path that units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine pursued the enemy two days before, and talked to the participants of this operation to tell you how they won this victory.

We are talking to soldiers of one of the Kyiv battalions of the Teroborona Forces in the central square of the liberated Vovchansk, from where the “second army of the world” hastily escaped only the day before yesterday.

Vovchansk – at the time of the full-scale enemy offensive, a city of 20,000 people on the border with Russia, located in the northeast of Kharkiv Oblast. The district center, which the Russians even for one day declared the administrative center of the occupied part of the Kharkiv region. But they did not have time to deploy the Gauleiter’s office there – the Ukrainian army was advancing too quickly.

The day is gloomy, it is raining, but the streets are full of people.

“For the first time in six months, we can breathe freely!” – says one of the local women, hugging the commander of the Kyiv Terrodefense unit and thanking the soldiers for liberating the city.
