Trade unions rally against poverty in Prague

Thousands of people representing various trade unions in the Czech Republic gathered on Saturday, October 8, in the center of Prague for a rally. The reason was the weak, in their opinion, support of the population from the government in the face of a sharp drop in living standards. This is reported by the portal iDNES.cz.

And why raising the key rate can lead to an intensification of the crisis in a number of countries in the region

Thus, trade unions demand from the authorities the introduction of price controls on food, energy or housing rent.

“It is wrong that people should look for a second or even a third job. We want a decent job, life and wages, ”Josef Stršedul, a Czech trade union activist, quotes the publication.

He also called on the country’s authorities to immediately raise the minimum wage to 18,200 crowns (45,144 rubles).

According to the newspaper, the union rally called “Five minutes after twelve” lasted about an hour and a half.

Anti-government rallies were held in Prague and other cities of the Czech Republic on September 28 as well. The protesters demanded the resignation of the current liberal government, the country’s military neutrality, direct agreements with the Russian Federation on gas supplies at low prices, the release of the Czech industry from foreign dependence, the possibility of voluntary vaccination against COVID-19, and the country’s food independence.

On September 3, about 20 thousand people also gathered in the center of Prague. Another protest gathered representatives of organizations, political parties and citizens who do not agree with the current policy of the Czech Republic and want a change in political course. The protesters came out with slogans against the EU, NATO, Prime Minister Petar Fiala and a green economy for Europe.

As early as August 26, Czech Justice Minister Pavel Blazek saw a threat to the political system in rising energy prices. In his opinion, since 1989 the situation in the social and political sphere has not been more dramatic. The politician admitted that if the situation worsens in the republic, the mass protests that led to the removal of the communists from power in 1989 could be repeated.
