“All citizens of Ukraine who took part in the organization of this action <…> will be punished in accordance with the norms of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The competent authorities of Ukraine are already taking measures to search for them and bring them to justice,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

It is also added that Ukraine calls on the EU, NATO and G7 countries to immediately significantly increase pressure on Russia, including tough new sanctions against it.

In addition, Ukraine asked to increase its military support. In particular, to supply tanks, combat aircraft, armored vehicles, long-range artillery, anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense systems.

The day before, the LPR stated that Ukrainian provocateurs threatened members of election commissions working in the territories of two villages in the Starobelsky district during the referendum. It was noted that Kyiv also threatened to burn polling stations, so for security reasons, their work had to be transferred to reserve stations.

On September 27, referendums on reunification with Russia ended in the LPR and DPR, as well as in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. According to the results of processing 100% of the ballots, 99.23% of the residents of the DPR voted for joining the Russian Federation, in the LPR – 98.42%, in the Zaporozhye region – 93.11%, in the Kherson region – 87.05%.

On February 24, Russia announced the start of a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. It began against the backdrop of the situation in the region that worsened in mid-February. Then the authorities of the DPR and LPR reported on the increased shelling by the Ukrainian troops, announced the evacuation of the civilian population in the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree.
