Lenovo offers a wide range of laptops for a variety of purposes, and the ThinkPad lineup has already become synonymous with “business notebooks”. Although the ThinkPad is often represented by huge hard laptops, there are some really lightweight and compact solutions, one of which is the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano. We tested it and are ready to share our impressions so you can create your own opinion.
The ThinkPad X1 Nano weighs less than a kilogram, making it one of the lightest laptops on the market, not just the ThinkPad lineup. Of course, due to the lightness and compact dimensions, the model is not equipped with wide connectors and has a compact keyboard, but it does not interfere with use, especially due to the mobility of the laptop. If this is not a problem for you, and the main option when choosing a laptop – portability, ThinkPad X1 Nano looks very interesting solution.

Design
What can be said about the design of ThinkPad X1 Nano is a classic ThinkPad design, only in a smaller and more compact body. This solution can be called the most portable ThinkPad of all time, as it weighs less than one kilogram – just 939 grams. For example, the MacBook Air, which many consider to be the standard for lightweight laptops, weighs 30 percent more.
The ThinkPad X1 Nano has a classic trackpad and keyboard for the ThinkPad lineup, but the keyboard is definitely smaller due to the size of the laptop. The panel has a fingerprint scanner as well as speakers.

Despite the screen having the ability to rotate 180 degrees, there is no support for touch input and 360-degree rotation, so the ThinkPad X1 Nano is not a transformer.
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano has a 13-inch display with anti-glare coating. It is a compact good IPS matrix with 2K (2160 x 1350 pixels) resolution. The display is good, clean and usually shows itself on a very decent level in the test.
Due to the anti-glare panel, the ThinkPad X1 Nano does not have the best coverage of the DCI-P3 color panel (72 percent), but the brightness here is very good – it is 430 nits, which is significantly higher than the competitors. In general, the display may not be the best option for photo editing and other work including color, but it is perfect for office and other work.

The model is responsible for the power-efficient Intel Core i7-1160G7 processor, which provides quite good performance. It has a power package of 7-15W. Although the processor does not break the record, it achieves quite good results on the benchmark.

The Intel Iris Xe graphics adapter isn’t exactly for gaming and hard 3D work, but it’s a functional software task and capable of performing all the graphics work on the system – no complaints during the whole use.

Of course, portability is excellent, but it doesn’t make much sense if the laptop doesn’t provide good autonomy and the user needs to constantly carry a charger. Fortunately, this is obviously not the case with the ThinkPad X1 Nano, as it has performed better than many remarkably large solutions that have a lot more battery space in the autonomy test.
Battery capacity 48 watts / hour. Thus, in tests of moderate brightness and autonomy in web browsing, the laptop provides about 10-12 hours of battery life. The set has a charging unit that allows you to charge the laptop from zero to 80 percent per hour (full charge only takes an hour and a half).

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano has a fairly wide range of interfaces and chips, which not all competitors have (although there are flaws). Yes, the model supports Wi-Fi 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) and Bluetooth 5.2, but everything with the physical interface is pretty sad – because of the compact size here, except for the 3.5mm minijack, only two ports – two USB-C with Thunderbolt 4 . In fact, for many purposes you need to buy an adapter and take this into consideration when buying.
Traditionally for the ThinkPad, the X1 Nano has the military-standard protection MIL-STD-810H, which can withstand drops, vibrations and many other potentially dangerous external influences. The model has a fingerprint scanner and an IR camera for biometric authentication via Windows Hello. Also, there is a dTPM 2.0 module, which is very important for Windows 11.

Interestingly, despite the size, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano has four speakers, two above the keyboard, the other two – below the laptop. As a result, we get a good sound, which, however, is not optimally low frequency, as well as not very high volume. However, for such a compact laptop, it is a very good solution.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano laptop literally shows what you expect from it. It is a compact 13-inch laptop with a familiar ThinkPad design, security features, a powerful case and quite good performance. In addition, there is a decent display and very good, especially for this size, autonomy.
Unfortunately, it’s worth noting the disadvantages, the main one being the presence of only two USB-C / Thunderbolt 4 ports, which may not be enough for many tasks. In addition, the model does not have the most powerful platform, although it does have better power efficiency than competitive solutions.
Overall, the ThinkPad X1 Nano is a great ultraportable laptop for business and professional users. If the emphasis on portability is on choosing a laptop, you should definitely consider the ThinkPad X1 Nano as an option to buy.
