Caitlyn Jenner’s mom, Esther, dead at 96
Caitlyn Jenner’s mother, Esther Jenner, died Thursday. She was 96.
“I am heartbroken to announce my mom passed away yesterday morning, peacefully,” Caitlyn captioned an Instagram post Friday.
“Losing a mother is unique in the sense that she is the only person that loved me my entire life,” the Olympian, 73, continued.
“I will miss her tremendously. She was a few weeks shy of 97 and lived a full life. Love you mom.”
The heartfelt post featured a throwback photo of Caitlyn, Esther and an unidentified woman celebrating the late matriarch’s 95th birthday as they grouped around numerical balloons.
Two other photos in the carousel post showcased Esther’s warm smile as she sat at a dinner table.
People flooded the comments section with condolences, including “Real Housewives of New Jersey” alum Siggy Flicker, who wrote, “So very sorry for your loss. May your mom rest in peace .”
Erin Elmore, who competed on Season 3 of “The Apprentice,” echoed, “Sorry for your loss.”
Esther, who made appearances on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and “I Am Cait,” endured a number of health setbacks in her final years, including breaking both of her hips in a 2015 fall when she was 89.
“Visiting my mom and she’s doing great after breaking both her hips. She’s been mobile – she’s tough,” Caitlyn captioned an Instagram post at the time.

Esther had been a supporter of Caitlyn’s transition earlier that year, sharing with Radar Online how proud she was of the former decathlete.
“I have never been more proud of Bruce for who he is, himself as a father, as an Olympian, wonderful public speaker,” Esther said, using Caitlyn’s dead name and former pronouns. “He instills enthusiasm in people. He’s gifted.
“I am more proud of him now than when he stood on that podium and put the gold medal around his neck. He deserves all the respect.”
Esther had four children with her husband, William Jenner, before his death in 2000: Caitlyn, Pam Mettler, Lisa Jenner and Burt Jenner, the latter of whom was killed in a 1976 car accident.
