Chelsea have just FIVE players left from last Luton match and none will play in Premier League clash

It’s fair to say there has been a lot of change at Chelsea over the past year as they continue their incredible spending spree.

The Blues host Luton on Friday, live on talkSPORT, and the differences in their squad since their last meeting will be clear to see.

During the 2021/22 season, Chelsea played away at the Hatters in the FA Cup fifth round on the same day it was announced that Roman Abramovich was selling the club.

Despite conceding after just two minutes, the west London side – who were under Thomas Tuchel – secured a 3-2 win.

Goals from Saul Niguez, Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku ensured there wasn’t a ‘cupset’ on their travels to the then-Championship side.

A Premier League clash now awaits both Chelsea and Luton on Friday, but the hosts will arrive at Stamford Bridge with a whole new look.

Only five of the players who were named in the matchday squad for the previous meeting 17 months ago are still at the club.

Callum Hudson-Odoi, Malang Sarr and Lukaku all started, with Reece James and Dylan Williams named on the bench.

Something that is even more eye-opening is the fact that none of those players are likely to feature this Friday.

Hudson-Odoi, Sarr and Lukaku are all yet to feature for the Blues this season, and all three could leave permanently this summer.

James, who is now captain, is set to be sidelined in the coming weeks due to a hamstring injury, and Williams plays for the academy.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, Lewis Hall and Harvey Vale were also in the squad but all three are currently on loan away from the club.

All the other players that travelled for the match have all been sold by Chelsea or, in Saul’s case, returned to his parent club after his loan.

It means that Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI will be entirely different the one that the Tuchel selected in March 2022.

He is still seeking his first win as Chelsea boss following their 1-1 draw against Liverpool and 3-1 defeat to West Ham.

A home fixture against Premier League newcomers Luton will surely spell the perfect opportunity for him to claim such a result.

Moises Caicedo is set to play at Stamford Bridge for the first time since his summer move after a poor debut at the weekend in which he conceded a penalty.

Romeo Lavia could also be rewarded with his first Chelsea appearance in what seems to be an everchanging Blues team, one that looks very different compared to 17 months ago.
