Europatat Congress 2023 explores the future of agri-food trade – Potato News Today

On June 6, 2023, the inaugural Polish edition of the Europatat Congress will be held under the theme “The Changing Geopolitical Landscape and the Future for Potato Trade.” The event, taking place in Gdansk, Poland, will explore the effects of current geopolitics on international agri-food trade and the implications of the EU’s Green Deal objectives and new consumption trends for the potato sector within and beyond Europe.

The Polish Potato Federation and Europatat, the organizers, are pleased to reveal the primary speakers for the event.

The European potato industry currently faces numerous challenges, including high energy costs, climate change, increased regulations, trade barriers, and shifting production and consumption patterns such as local food, organic, vegan, and new agricultural techniques.

Speakers at the Europatat Congress will present their perspectives on the main challenges related to food production, potato trade, and consumption in Europe and beyond.

The Congress will commence with an opening session featuring distinguished guest speakers like Tigran Richter, President of Europatat, Tomasz Bienkoswki, President of the Polish Potato Federation, and a representative from the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Following these interventions, an engaging keynote speech will encourage attendees to think beyond the conventional “potato box.” The identity of the keynote speaker will be disclosed shortly, so stay tuned!

Post-lunch, a panel discussion will be led by Antonina Skliarenko, President of the Community of Pulse Producers and Customers of Ukraine, Geoffroy d’Evry, President of NEPG (North European Potatoes Growers) and UNPT (Union Nationale des Producteurs de Pommes de Terre), Jörg Renatus, Managing Director of Europlant International, and Jarosław Wańkowicz, Supply Chain Director at Farm Frites Poland SA. They will examine the impact of the shifting geopolitical landscape on agri-food trade in general, and specifically on potato trade, both in Europe and worldwide.

Berta Redondo Benito, Secretary General of Europatat, will then conclude the event, followed by a Gala Dinner at the stunning Polish Baltic Philharmonic.
