Federico Valverde signs new Real Madrid contract
Real Madrid have announced the contract renewal of Federico Valverde until 2029.
The 25-year-old will see his salary increase, as will his release clause that now stands at €1billion (£871.5m, $1.07bn).
The Athletic reported in October that Valverde had agreed terms on a new deal, in a negotiation that was carried out with the utmost discretion.
A statement read: “Real Madrid CF and Fede Valverde have agreed to extend the player’s contract, which remains linked to the club until June 30, 2029.
“Valverde arrived at Real Madrid in July 2016, when he was only 18 years old. In his six seasons defending the first team shirt he is already one of the best midfielders in the world.”
Valverde joins Eduardo Camavinga, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Eder Militao in seeing his Real Madrid contract renewed.
The new deals have been made to reward the good performances of Real Madrid’s younger players while also shielding them from any possible interest from clubs in the Premier League and Saudi Arabia.
Valverde has made 220 appearances for Real Madrid since signing from Uruguayan side Penarol in 2017. He last signed a six-year deal in 2021, when his release clause was raised to €1bn.

Federico Valverde’s renewal is another example of Real Madrid’s future-proofing after similar new deals for Eduardo Camavinga (20), Vinicius Junior (23), Rodrygo (22) and Eder Militao (25). All five look set to be key players for many years to come, but none are as influential at both ends of the pitch as the 25-year-old Valverde.
Just as happy playing on the wing as in midfield or even at right-back, the Uruguayan’s versatility and relentless work-rate make him a mainstay for Carlo Ancelotti. He provides Dani Carvajal with extra protection on the right flank but is also a threat when going forward — as proven by his Champions League-winning assist for Vinicius Jr in the 2022 final against Liverpool.
Valverde has yet to find his best form this season and will be disappointed by his goalscoring output — he has scored just once compared to a career-best 12 last campaign, not including the thunderous shot that resulted in an Alex Meret own-goal against Napoli last month. But he is invariably one of the first names on Madrid’s teamsheet and this deal is a reflection of that.
