A retired school teacher who went viral for discovering her love of rap made waves when she appeared on Good Morning Britain – but not for the reason you might expect.
Joy France, 66, regularly takes part in rap battles and showed her skills on Friday’s edition of the show, with absolute gem lyrics including: ‘You’ll never see me go street, put on a cap and go “Yo,”‘.
But while the rap battle itself was definitely something to behold, there was an even bigger eyebrow-raising detail hidden within the segment.
It turns out GMB accidentally aired a seriously explicit lyric long before the watershed, as just before 8.30am a clip played sharing Joy’s love for rap and how dedicated she is to her craft.
And in illustrating this, a video of her laptop was shown – where Joy was writing the lyrics: ‘Words spit & spill, knit a f*****g daffodil.’
It didn’t go unnoticed by some eagle-eyed viewers, who flocked to Twitter to re-air the faux pas, with one saying it ‘made me chuckle.’
‘Has the kid that does the editing gone back to school now?’ another joked as they shared the clip containing the explicit word.
Joy has been rapping since she turned 60, meaning she now has six years of practice under her belt – even if she is still sometimes mistakenly turned away from rap battle competitions, being told the Bingo is on next door.
In her GMB interview, Joy admitted she wasn’t initially a fan of rap but decided to ‘challenge herself’ and to ‘challenge people’s perceptions of women who tend to go a bit invisible.’
‘I’ve now become part of the scene,’ she smiled.
‘I wanted to show them that I could give it a go and not make a fool of myself. But I’ve discovered that away from the battles it is a beautiful gentle scene, young men in particular, there for each other.’
A documentary was made around Joy’s entrance into the rap world, titled Joy Uncensored, which is available to watch from the website.
(But be warned – like Joy’s lyrics, the language can get blue!)
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV
