Joey Fatone on *NSYNC’s VMAs Reunion and Taylor Swift’s Reaction – Cosmopolitan

POV: One of the most successful ’90s boy bands just reunited onstage for the first time in years in our good year 2023. No, you’re not dreaming—this *quite literally* just happened with *NSYNC at this year’s VMAs on September 12. If you didn’t think the moment could get any more iconic, the guys presented the award for Best Pop and handed the Moon Person to Taylor Swift, who pretty much reacted like this:

The band—which is comprised of Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick, and JC Chasez—met up with the “Anti-Hero” singer backstage at the show, and the mastermind herself couldn’t even fathom what the boy band could be whipping up. Saaame, Tay.

“She’s a sweetheart,” Joey Fatone told ET Canada at ’90s Con in Tampa, Florida, on September 15. “We presented to her, then walked off and she went, ‘What the hell are you guys doing?’ That was [her] big question. She had no idea we’d be there, so we caught her off guard.”

But wait, there’s more! *NSYNC is set to release “Better Place”—their first song in 20 years—for the upcoming Trolls Band Together soundtrack. While the current SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes limit how much the guys can promote the animated flick, Joey gushed about the fan reaction to their reunion that was captured on Justin Timberlake’s Instagram.

JT, who stars as Branch in the beloved animated film franchise, shared a video from the band’s studio session and referred to the other members as his “brothers.” Excuse me as I tear up at his sweet sentiment. 🥲

“People were getting nostalgic and teary-eyed about the video, which is funny because for us, getting in there, it was just like, ‘Let’s get to work—here’s our parts. We know what to do,’” Joey explained. “There was no ‘what do we do again?’ We just went in and did it. Oddly enough, it’s still second nature, which is cool.”

ICYMI, the band last reunited (sans Justin) during Ariana Grande’s headlining Coachella set in 2019 to perform a mashup of her hit “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored”/“It Makes Me Ill” and “Tearin’ Up My Heart.” So a full-on reunion with JT in 2023 is definitely cause for celebration.
