Neil Patrick Harris’ family sweetly supports him at the Broadway opening of Peter Pan Goes Wrong

Following his guest-starring gig in Hulu’s How I Met Your Father, Neil Patrick Harris and his family glammed up to attend opening night of his Broadway play Peter Pan Goes Wrong at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in Manhattan on Wednesday.

The New Mexico-born 49-year-old – who publicly came out in 2006 – was joined on the red carpet by his husband of eight years, David Burtka, and their 12-year-old twins Gideon Scott and Harper Grace.

Neil’s pre-teens wore a black suit and a yellow-ruffled floral frock, respectively, while the 47-year-old actor-chef also donned a black suit with loafers.

Harris – who relied on groomer Amy Komorowski – wore a chambray blazer over a grey-striped button-up, black slacks, and matching boots selected by stylist Sam Spector.

The Uncoupled producer-star hasn’t starred in a Broadway show since his Tony Award-winning turn in Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the Belasco Theatre back in 2015.

It’s all relative! The New Mexico-born 49-year-old – who publicly came out in 2006 – was joined on the red carpet by his husband of eight years, David Burtka (R), and their 12-year-old twins Gideon Scott (2-L) and Harper Grace (2-R)

‘[It’s] nice to be back,’ Neil gushed to Broadway World on Wednesday.

‘I am surrounded by some of the most talented people I’ve ever seen doing a level of comedy that is relentless and very physical, and I’m in a very happy place.’

Harris admitted he only had two days of rehearsal and one tech rehearsal in order to prepare for the role of Francis, who’s the narrator of the play-within-a-play.

‘My role’s not gigantic,’ the former child star confessed.

‘But what I find with the comedy of this level is that it’s very technical. It’s like a dance on multiple levels – backstage stuff is happening, costume changes, and props that have to be in specific pockets, in specific places. From sitting in an audience and watching the chaos, it feels a lot more spontaneous than it actually is.’

Fans can catch Neil as Francis through April 30 but the international theatre company Mischief’s highly physical slapstick comedy, directed by Adam Meggido, is scheduled to run until July 9.

Peter Pan Goes Wrong originally premiered at the Pleasance Theatre in London in 2013 and spawned a UK tour, two successful runs on the West End, and a BBC One TV special.

Meanwhile, David – who started dating Harris in 2004 – began previews Tuesday on Theatre Breaking Through Borders’ off-Broadway revival of God of Carnage, which runs April 27-May 20 at Theatre Row in Manhattan.
