Nottingham Forest complete loan signing of Argentina’s World Cup final penalty shootout hero
Nottingham Forest have completed the loan signing of Gonzalo Montiel with an option to buy from Sevilla.
Despite signing a whopping 30 players last season, Steve Cooper’s side have continued to dip into the market for fresh faces.
Chris Wood, Ola Aina, Anthony Elanga and Matt Turner have all completed moves to the City Ground this summer.
Forest did well to survive relegation in their first season back in the Premier League last term.
They will be looking to climb further up the table this time round and have now brought in World Cup winning quality.
Montiel, who will wear the no.29 shirt, said: “I’m really happy to have joined this club.

“I’m coming here full of expectations, of getting to play and showing what I can do. I’m also hungry to win things, to win trophies, now’s the time to show this.
“I’ve been watching the Premier League since I was child, I used to watch every game. As a player you want to play in the best league, and the Premier League is just that.”
Montiel has been with Sevilla since 2021, making 72 appearances for the LaLiga side and has scored twice, although is most known for his efforts with Argentina.
Montiel was tasked with taking the crucial penalty to win them the World Cup in the final shootout against France in Qatar.
The 26-year-old made no mistake from the spot to cement he and his teammates’ status as legends of Argentinian football.
His penalty unsurprisingly sparked jubilant scenes from Lionel Messi and co. as they got their hands on the biggest prize of all.
Montiel has now swapped LaLiga for the Premier League, a move that will see him face his fellow World Cup winners.
Lisandro Martinez and Cristiano Romero, also defenders, both star for Manchester United and Tottenham respectively.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was key for Argentina, as was Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister proved crucial in the final too, with Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez also featuring.
Montiel’s first appearance for Forest could come this Saturday when they face Manchester United away from home, live on talkSPORT.
