‘Number of teams’ including Bills will target Tremaine Edmunds

As free agency begins, the Buffalo Bills might have to fend off multiple teams if they are to retain linebacker Tremaine Edmunds.

Edmunds is slated to hit the open market as a free agent this week. On Monday, the “tampering” window, where players can talk to teams, begins. Then on Wednesday, those deals can be signed, but things usually are essentially agreed upon in between.

Regarding Edmunds, NFL Network’s Mike Giardi says there will be “a number of teams” looking to sign the 24-year-old, but adds the Bills will be one of them:

Exactly who will Buffalo have to fend off? That is not known. CBS Sports previously made the case for the Washington Commanders, Denver Broncos, and Houston Texans to add Edmunds.

While playing on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal in 2022, Edmunds had the best season of his career. That’s good for the player, but not the best for the Bills in terms of business.

It’s projected that Edmunds could earn somewhere as high as $15-17 million per season on the open market. Buffalo is still approximately $11M over the 2023 salary cap with the restructured deal they struck with Matt Milano over the weekend.
