Patrick Stewart bids a fond farewell to Jean-Luc at a Star Trek: Picard finale screening

Patrick Stewart is bidding farewell to the beloved Star Trek character he played for 36 years – Jean-Luc Picard – at a finale screening for Star Trek: Picard.

The 82-year-old actor rocked a dapper look at the red carpet screening, held at The Grove in Los Angeles on Wednesday evening.

The screening was held just hours before the Season 3 finale – and series finale – of Star Trek: Picard is made available on the Paramount Plus streaming service.

The outing also comes nearly a month after Stewart admitted that he almost turned down the Jean-Luc Picard role for Star Trek: The Next Generation, which debuted in 1987.

Now, nearly four decades later, the iconic British actor says goodbye to the character as Star Trek: Picard comes to an end.

Stewart stepped out with a black turtleneck under a slate blue coat for his red carpet appearance.

The actor also rocked black dress pants and completed his look with white sneakers for the event.

Stewart was classically trained at the British Old Vic Theatre School in the U.K. and became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966.

He was well-known for his theater work in the U.K., which almost lead to him turning down the role that made him a star – Jean-Luc Picard.

Stewart just happened to be in California, ‘giving lectures and talking at universities,’ and it seems Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry heard about it.

‘I was visiting California giving lectures and talking at universities and I got call from my Hollywood agent who I’d never met,’ Stewart said.

‘He said, “I’ve got two questions… what were you doing at UCLA last night and why would Gene want to see you this morning?”‘ Stewart recalled.

‘Back then, it seemed improbable and unlikely. It was a six year contract. I said, “No, I have theatre commitments. My agent said, “You’d be lucky to make it through the first year,”‘ Stewart continued.

Stewart was joined on the red by a number of his co-stars including Michael Dorn, who played Worf in the Star Trek franchise.

Also hitting the red carpet was Jeri Ryan, who played Seven of Nine, who was all smiles in a black minidress.

She accessorized with hoop earrings and a gold bracelet while holding a small clutch on the red carpet, finishing her look with brown pumps.

Jonathan Frakes and Gates McFadden, who played William Riker and Doctor Beverly Crusher, posed together on the red carpet.

Brent Spiner, who played Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation, also hit the red carpet in a black coat, white shirt, black pants and boots.

LeVar Burton, who played Geordi LaForge in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Picard, also hit the red carpet.

He posed solo and also with his daughter Mica Burton on the red carpet at the star-studded event.

The series finale of Star Trek: Picard will be available on Paramount Plus on Thursday, April 20.
