Respawn Offers Statement On Horrible ‘Jedi: Survivor’ PC Performance

[ad_1]

Respawn has just come out with one of those famous “our game isn’t working” images with a bunch of tiny text on it, in this case about Star Wars: Jedi Survivor’s terrible PC performance which has tanked the Steam reviews of an otherwise good game.

The note here is not an apology, but a statement of “awareness” of the problem and saying that they are working on fixing the game “as soon as possible.” But because of the complexity of the problems, it may take a while. Here’s the statement in full:

“We are aware that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor isn’t performing to our standards for a percentage of our PC players, in particular those with high-end machines or certain specific configurations.

“For example, players using cutting-edge, multi-threaded chipsets designed for Windows 11 were encountering problems on Windows 10, or high-end GPUs coupled with lower-performing CPUs also saw unexpected frame loss. Rest assured, we are working to address these cases quickly.

“While there is no single, comprehensive solution for PC performance, the team has been working on fixes we believe will improve performance across a spectrum of configurations,” the statement continues. “We are committed to fixing these issues as soon as possible, but each patch requires significant testing to ensure we don’t introduce new problems. Thanks for understanding, and apologies to any of our players experiencing these issues.

“We will continue to monitor performance across all platforms and share update timing as soon as it is available.”

The idea here is that actually the better your machine is, the worse it might be performing with the current slate of bugs. Though it also seems to blame players’ configurations, a high-end GPU combined with a bad CPU, which has rubbed some people the wrong way. Also in here is no note of any problems on console, which yes, may be performing better, but there is still frame dropping and some other issues there.

The general sense from all this is “how on earth does this keep happening with every new release?” PC versions of games especially keep launching borderline broken and must be fixed with a series of patches that take days, weeks or even months. In this case it seems like an extra-big shame for all parties as outside of these issues, Jedi: Survivor is quite good. But then this has sparked another debate between fans and critics, questioning high scores of a game that can barely run on many machines. It’s an old question of whether you’re reviewing a game’s bugs that might be fixed shortly, or if you’re reviewing the game content itself. But either path creates problems.

Nobody likes to see these issues, but on the consumer side it is becoming increasingly frustrating that these games aren’t just continually delayed for “polish,” it’s that after the fact, they are still launching with enormous technical problems all the same, especially on PC. We’ll see how long this will take to get fixed, but we’re not exactly getting a timeline from Respawn here.
