The Ministry of Justice will now check the reputation of media buyers

The Department of Justice has been given the authority to conduct background checks on the buyer or potential buyer of the media.

Literally: “During a government meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers made changes to the regulation on the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, in accordance with which the Ministry of Justice received the authority to check the business reputation of the buyer (potential buyer) of the media.

This will ensure the implementation of the law of Ukraine “On the prevention of threats to national security associated with excessive influence of persons with significant economic and political weight in public life (oligarchs)””.

Details: Minister of Justice Denis Malyuska explained that, based on the request of a buyer or potential buyer of a media outlet, the department will conduct a check on the business reputation of such an acquirer.

“That is, an assessment of information on the discovery of compliance or non-compliance of the indicated person with the requirements of the law on deoligarchization will be provided. In the future, the results of such a check will be sent to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and reported to the relevant media buyer,” Maliuska said.
