UT MARTIN TRACK AND FIELD FINDS SUCCESS AT OUTDOOR MUSIC CITY CHALLENGE

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin track and field program wrapped up its regular season with a strong performance at the Outdoor Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt over the weekend.

In the team’s final regular season meet prior to the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship on May 11-13, the Skyhawks left Nashville with two school records, an event victory and numerous personal-bests to built upon.
 

Meet Highlights

• The Skyhawks won their lone event of the meet on Friday when junior MJ Jackson finished first in the men’s long jump with a distance of 7.16m.
• After breaking the program’s 3k steeplechase record at the Margaret Simmons Invite earlier this season, junior Lilia Alvarez bested her own benchmark by nearly 20 seconds on Saturday with a time of 11:15.82.
• Redshirt-freshman Khalid White joined the Skyhawk record books with his performance in the men’s 400m dash. His time of 48.16 seconds set a new school record, beating the previous mark by 0.82 seconds.
• Sophomore Lydia Tankersley set a pair of PRs in the meet with her performance in both the 1500m and 800m. In the 1500m, Tankersley finished eighth with a new PR time of 4:32.67. She also set a new PR in the 800m, with a mark of 2:12.55 – narrowly missing the program record by less than a second.
• In addition to Tankersley setting a new personal-best time in the women’s 800m, she was joined by both freshmen Maggie Roy and two-sport athlete Anaya Brown with PRs in the 800m event. Roy posted a time of 2:15.39 while Brown was close behind at 2:16.35.
• Meanwhile in the men’s 800m, senior Victor Kemboi set a new PR of his own with a time of 1:58.38.
• Freshman Ja’Kobe Ward had a nice afternoon after posting the best time of his young career in the men’s 400m hurdles with a mark of 55.28 seconds.

UT Martin returns to action at the three-day OVC Outdoor Championships to be contested in Edwardsville, Ill. on May 11-13.
