2023 PGA Championship odds, golf picks: Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth predictions from model that hit the Masters

[ad_1]

Tiger Woods still remains one of, if not the, biggest draws in golf despite not winning a PGA Tour event since 2019. However, the 15-time major champion officially withdrew from the 2023 PGA Championship following ankle surgery., Woods competed in the Masters in April but withdrew due to injury before the third round with a 3 over. He had the ankle surgery a week later. Still, the 2023 PGA Championship field will be filled with star power at Oak Hill Country Club starting Thursday. Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler are 15-2 co-favorites in the 2023 PGA Championship odds at Caesars Sportsbook and are the top two players in the world.

Rory McIlroy (12-1), Thomas (16-1), Jordan Spieth (18-1) and Brooks Koepka (19-1) follow in the powerful 2023 PGA Championship lineup. Thomas won the PGA Championship last year and will try to become the first back-to-back winner since Koepka in 2018 and 2019. Before locking in your 2023 PGA Championship picks or entering any PGA DFS tournaments on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $8,400 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm’s second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner.

In addition, the model included Nick Hardy and Davis Riley in its best bets to win the 2023 Zurich Classic. That bet hit at +4500, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned over $1,100. McClure’s best bets also included J.T. Poston winning outright at the 2022 John Deere Classic, even though he was listed as a massive 55-1 longshot.

This same model has also nailed a whopping nine majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2023 PGA Championship is approaching, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

2023 PGA Championship predictions for Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm

One shocker the model is calling for at the PGA Championship 2023: Three-time major champion Jordan Spieth, who finished second in the 2015 PGA Championship and is one win away from a career grand slam, stumbles and barely cracks the top 10. Spieth has been close to picking up his first win this season, but has settled for top-five finishes in four of his last seven tournaments. Additionally, he is coming off of a missed cut in his last appearance, the Wells Fargo Championship, and withdrew from this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson.

Spieth’s accuracy has been an issue all season and he’s found the fairway on just 54.86% of drives. Moreover, he’s struggled to sink makeable putts, and ranks 124th among all golfers on putts between four and eight feet. Precision matters in major tournaments and Spieth hasn’t played with enough of it this season to believe that he will pick up his first win of the year at the PGA Championship 2023. See who else to fade here.

The model has also come up with a prediction for Rory McIlroy, a four-time major champion. McIlroy has won four career majors, but none since his 2014 PGA Championship. He missed the cut at the Masters, the first major of the season, after coming off an impressive 2022 majors season. Last year, McIlroy finished in the top eight in every major, including second at the Masters and third at the Open Championship.

The 34-year-old has been in a rut since finishing second at the Arnold Palmer Invitation on March 5. He missed the cut in two of his ensuing four tournaments and was 47th at the Wells Fargo Championship last weekend. Still, one skill McIlroy continues to maintain is his diving ability. He ranks first on the PGA Tour in driving distance (328.2), fourth in strokes gained tee to green (1.714) and seventh in strokes gained off the tee (.790). The 23-time PGA Tour champion has been strong off the tee, but struggled near the pin, ranking 159th in putting average (1.783) and 176th or worse in all putting categories from beyond 10 feet. See where every golfer finishes here.

On the other hand, the model has also examined Jon Rahm’s chances to win his second major championship of the season. Rahm has earned his title of No. 1 in the world with four victories and eight top-10 finishes in 12 events this year. Rahm won the Masters by four strokes with a 12-under and is coming off finishing second at the Mexico Open April 30.

The 28-year-old leads the PGA in total strokes gained (2.625), is 10th in driving distance (312.1), second in greens in regulation percentage (73.85%) and second in putting average (1.681). However, he has never played at Oak Hill Country Club and although he’s driving for distance, his accuracy is barely above PGA Tour average, ranking 75th at 61.50%. This will be his first tournament in May, so there are variables as to how Rahm will perform this year. See the full PGA Championship projections from the model here.

The model is targeting four golfers with odds of 20-1 or longer who will make surprising runs. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model’s 2023 PGA Championship picks here.
