Ajax v Brighton preview

Brighton have hit a bit of a slump in form in recent weeks having started off the current campaign in the same electric way they finished the last, winning five of their opening six Premier League matches.

But just one win for Roberto de Zerbi’s team in eight competitions since then has seen the Seagulls slip down to seventh in the league table and in the midst of an incredibly tight Europa League group at the halfway point.

The only win in that spell has come against Ajax, who they play again on Thursday, as the south coast club won 2-0 against the four time European champions, to put themselves back into contention to reach the knockout stage.

Brighton currently sit third in Group B ahead of their matchday four trip to Amsterdam with four points from their opening three matches, but with just one point separating the top three sides and three points separating all four, there is still everything to play for.

Ajax endured a torrid start to the new season, going on a seven match winless streak, of which they lost five, following their opening day win in the Eredivisie, and were sat down in 15th place when current caretaker boss John van ‘t Schip took over.

The Dutch side were on a 10 match winless streak in all competitions when he took over, which includes four consecutive defeats, including that against Brighton, when the former Greece and Netherlands assistant manager took over.

Ajax have since won two games out of two under van ‘t Schip’s tutelage, lifting the club up to 11th in the Eredivisie and will be hoping to take that form into Thursday’s Europa League clash, looking for their first win of the campaign after picking up just two points in their opening three games.

Ajax v Brighton betting tips

Sky Bet have boosted a handful of their odds ahead of Thursday’s clash at the Johan Cruyff Arena, which includes the Brighton duo of Ansu Fati and Joao Pedro both to score, as they did against the same opponent three weeks ago, which is now available at 8/1.
