Amyl and the Sniffers and Genesis Owusu sweep National Live … – ABC News

The National Live Music Awards (NLMAs) are back in a big way after a couple of years off. In the sixth iteration of the extensive and comprehensive awards for the live music industry, it was Genesis Owusu and Amyl and the Sniffers that came up trumps.

With three awards each, the two big winners cemented why they’re so beloved – their live performances are filled with passion, artistry, energy and star power.

Amyls picked up the biggest award of the night, taking home Live Act of the Year as well as Best Live Act in Victoria and Best Punk/Hardcore Act.

Meanwhile Genny Wu snatched the gong for Best Stage and Lighting Direction with collaborators Alex McCoy and Pat Santamaria, along with Best Hip Hop Act and Best Live Act in the ACT.

“I don’t think there’s anything in this world I put more work into than the live show,” Genesis said.

“My knees will never be the same. These shins. My Voice. Spending hours and hours conceptualising narratives with people like Pat and Alex just for this crazy and unexplainable goal of being able to create a new world on stage.

“It takes a lot of my mental and physical energy. So thank you for recognising it and giving it more of a platform. I truly appreciate it.”

The coveted Musicians Making A Difference (MMAD) Live Award was handed to Baker Boy for its third year in existence, recognising his work in celebrating the Yolngu language and connecting young First Nations people in remote communities with their own bright futures and potential.

It’s no surprise that Yothu Yindi were the recipients of Live Legends this year, honouring their lengthy dedication and contribution to the local and international music scene.

It’s been a big year for Yothu Yindi, who were also inducted into the National Indigenous Music Awards’ Hall of Fame in August.
