Anthony Richardson rap video: What to know about Colts … – Sporting News

Anthony Richardson has gone from inexperienced Florida quarterback to NFL starter in the span of a year. It looks like football is going to work out for him. If it doesn’t, though, he might have a fallback option.

Richardson is going viral not for his ridiculous arm strength, but for his rapping skills. The rookie has verses in multiple rap videos posted to a YouTube account named GVO TV, and he sounds better than many athletes who try their hand at music.

The Colts named Richardson their starting quarterback on Tuesday, so this year’s fourth overall pick might have to shift his focus away from the studio for just a little bit. Still, Damian Lillard might have some competition when it comes to prominent rap careers by athletes.

Here’s a closer look at the Richardson rap video going viral and what else we know about his rap career.

Anthony Richardson rap video

The music video for “Talk to 2” by GVO Speero, featuring Big VO and GVO CJ, has just 2,700 views as of Tuesday, but the clip of Richardson’s rap verse is starting to gain traction on social media.

The video was posted more than a year ago, during the summer before Richardson’s final season at Florida, and the ex-Gators quarterback interestingly isn’t the main artist. He only has one verse, but it was enough to impress many fans.

GVO Speero, who is credited as the song’s main artist, isn’t Richardson, but the GVO network includes Richardson. According to GVO Speero’s Instagram bio, GVO serves as an acronym for both “Gainesville’s very own” and “God’s very own.”

“Talk to 2” wasn’t Richardson’s only appearance as a rapper. He has a verse in GVO Speero’s “POV,” which was posted to YouTube in June. A few of Richardson’s lines reference his success, including one that says, “I be walking around and everybody know my name.”

People do know Richardson’s name, even if not (yet) because of his rap career. He was the fourth overall pick in April’s draft despite an up-and-down season as the Gators’ starter, and his tantalizing combination of size and arm strength have Colts fans dreaming big.

One line from “Talk to 2” stands out from the rest. “On the field I’m a saint, I be throwing like Drew Brees,” Richardson raps.

The 21-year-old might not be a New Orleans Saint, and he might have a different style of play than Brees did, but he’s about to join the fraternity of NFL starting quarterbacks when he takes the field for the Colts in Week 1.

Richardson putting together a career even half as successful as Brees would be a major win for Indianapolis; it’s all a matter of developing him into a quality starter.

Anthony Richardson rap nickname

Richardson’s exact rap name isn’t totally clear, but he’s part of a group that labels itself as “GVO.” That translates to “Gainesville’s very own,” according to the group’s YouTube channel. On some social media profiles, GVO is labeled as “God’s very own.”

The University of Florida is located in Gainesville, so you don’t have to look too far to figure out where the name originates.

GTO TV, the name of the YouTube channel under which all rap videos featuring Richardson are posted, has a limited number of views on its videos and only 697 subscribers as of Tuesday, but some NFL success from the 21-year-old quarterback could go a long way for the group’s rap career.
