Claysburg Area Community Theatre will present “The Sound of Music” by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization (www.concordtheatricals.com) at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Claysburg-Kimmel High School auditorium.

Tickets are $13 for students/seniors and $15 for regular admission and available at Peggy’s Diner, Sky’s Crafts and Resale Shop, Claysburg Library, Davison Snack Outlet and at the door. The musical is directed by Daniel Crist and Erin Kelly. The musical director is Terry Hershberger and assisted by Earla Reffner.

“The Sound of Music” is an inspirational story based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp and the Story of the Trapp Family Singers.

Set in Austria on the eve of the Anschluss in 1938, the musical tells the story of Maria, a postulate, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether to become a nun. She falls in love with the children, and eventually their father, the imperious Captain von Trapp. while bringing music and joy back to the household.

Captain von Trapp is ordered by the Nazi regime, who have taken over Austria, to accept a commission in the German Navy. While opposing the Nazis, he and Maria make a moral decision to flee Austria with their family.

The musical features more than 60 cast and crew members and more than a dozen musicians in the orchestra.
