College football Week 10 odds, schedule: SEC showdowns, Washington at USC take center stage
The first week of November is nearly here, which means the stakes are a bit higher in college football. There are a few big games in Week 10 and the lines and totals for those games give a preview of what to expect.
The SEC has two huge games that could decide the division winners that go to Atlanta for the SEC title game. First up in the afternoon, the 7-1 Missouri Tigers go to Athens to take on the undefeated Georgia Bulldogs. The Tigers may be the toughest competition to Georgia in the SEC East, although Georgia is favored by more than two touchdowns.
Georgia faced one ranked team at the time of the game this season when Kentucky went to Athens a few weeks ago. Georgia won 51-13, but that Kentucky team is far from the rankings at 5-3 and got blown out on its own field by Missouri recently. After the Bulldogs blew away Florida in Jacksonville on Saturday, not many expect a slip-up from Georgia here, although Missouri gave the Bulldogs one of their toughest games last season. Georgia won 26-22, but Missouri led most of the way.
The SEC West race will shift after the Alabama Crimson Tide hosts the LSU Tigers. The division appears to be a three-team race between Alabama, LSU and the Ole Miss Rebels. Alabama is 5-0 in SEC play while Ole Miss beat LSU and Alabama beat Ole Miss. An LSU win would make for a very interesting three-way tie at the top with shared 1-1 head-to-head records. An Alabama win would virtually assure Nick Saban’s team goes to Atlanta. The Tide are favored by a few points.
Meanwhile, in the Pac-12, the Washington Huskies at USC Trojans game was circled on the calendar a few weeks ago as one of the games to watch in the college football season. However, USC has fallen off with a number of disappointing performances in recent weeks. After starting the season 4-0 with an average margin of victory of 35, the Trojans have gone 3-2 since with no victories by more than one score. Losses to Notre Dame and Utah are one thing, but wins against Arizona and Cal that came down to the final play do not inspire confidence.
Still, at 5-1 in Pac-12 play, USC is alone in second place in the conference standings. Undefeated Washington is favored by a few points on the road.
Speaking of tight conference races, the Big 12 is a jumbled mess at the top. Five teams are 4-1 in conference play (Oklahoma, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Texas and Kansas State). Four of those teams are in games against another team in that group on Saturday. The Oklahoma Sooners make the short trip to Stillwater to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the final edition of Bedlam currently scheduled. The Sooners are favored by less than a touchdown. Plus, the Texas Longhorns are favored by more than a field goal against Kansas State.
In another action that is not a marquee game, the Iowa Hawkeyes are taking on the Northwestern Wildcats at Wrigley Field in a game that opened with historically-low point total odds.
Here are the odds for every game featuring an AP Top 25 team, plus a few other notable games in Week 10. All AP Top 25 teams are in action on Saturday. The initial College Football Playoff rankings come out this week. For now, rankings are from the AP poll, but this post will be updated.
