David Benavidez, who Mike Tyson named the ‘Mexican Monster’, has a cunning plan to force Canelo Alvarez to fight him after Jermell Charlo

David Benavidez has mapped out his cunning plan to force a Canelo Alvarez fight into existence next year.

The 27-0 (23 KOs) two-time former WBC super-middleweight world champion, nicknamed the ‘Mexican Monster’ by Mike Tyson, twice lost his belt for issues out of the ring, but has now regained a position as WBC mandatory challenger.

Canelo is the current undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO champion, but is not due to face a WBC mandatory until March 2024.

Even when he is ordered to face Benavidez, it’s very possible than Canelo could be allowed an exception for another bout.

The Mexican superstar signed a three-fight deal with Al Haymon’s PBC earlier this year, which will begin with a clash against Jermell Charlo on Saturday night.

It’s been widely rumoured that Canelo will face Jermell’s twin brother Jermall Charlo after this, before potentially rounding out the three-fight deal against Benavidez.

However, Benavidez remains sceptical that he will get his shot and so has hatched a plan to jump the queue.

His next fight is planned to take place against Demetrius Andrade on November 25.

And another bout in the works for that show features Jermall Charlo against Benavidez’s brother Jose Benavidez Jr.

David is hoping his brother Jose can topple Charlo, eliminating him as a potential Canelo opponent and allowing him to take his place next.

Benavidez told Samp&Chance: “I’m gonna manifest this because Canelo’s gonna beat Jermell Charlo and then Canelo’s supposed to fight Jermall Charlo.

“But my brother’s gonna fight him [Jermall] on my undercard.

“My brother’s gonna win the fight, so after we take the other Charlo out of the equation then it’s just me and Canelo right there.”

Giving his thoughts on this Saturday’s fight, Benavidez added: “I feel like it’s just too much, Jermell Charlo’s coming up too much in weight.

“Canelo’s strong right now, he’s comfortable at that weight class.

“But I’m not taking anything away from Charlo, I’m not gonna say it’s an easy fight for Canelo because it’s not, Charlo’s talented and he’s bigger than Canelo.

“It’s gonna be a good fight, but I feel like Canelo’s gonna take it.

“It might be a tough fight or Canelo might stop him in the late rounds with body shots.”
