Doja Cat, Staind, Paul Rodgers, Bocelli’s son lead this week’s new music releases – cleveland.com

Autumn is greeted by a surge of new music releases, entering the busiest time of year with titles from Doja Cat, Staind, Soccer Mommy, Paul Rodgers and Andrew Bocelli’s son, as well as a surprise from The National and a salute to the late Nanci Griffith (all subject to change)…

Album of the Week: After being called out as too soft by haters back in 2021, Doja Cat has some grudges to bear on her fourth album, “Scarlet” (Kemosabe/Republic). Led by its chart-topping, Bacharach/David-sampling first single “Paint the Town Red,” the 10-track set hews darker and more muscular — she calls it “masculine” than its predecessors, with production by D.A. Got That Dope, Y2k, Kurtis McKenzie, Jean-Baptiste and others you don’t find on the list of usual suspects. Buckle up, because the track list indicates she’s ready to “Go Off,” and we’re sure her aim is very true.

Album Title of the Week: Yoke Lore, “A Never Ending New Beginning” (Yell House)

Did Ya Know?: The Fusion Syndicate — an all-star assemblage featuring veterans of Mahavishnu Orchestra, Yellowjackets, Yes, Dream Theater, King Crimson Tool, Porcupine Tree and more — returns with “A Speedway On Saturn’s Rings” (Cleopatra), its first new recording in 11 years. The troupe is joined this joined this time out by special guests Bootsy Collins and Brian Jackson from the late Gil Scott-Heron’s band.
