Maharashtra Political Crisis Live Updates (July 8): Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has appointed recently defected MLC Neelam Gorhe as ‘Neta’ in Shiva Sena. The post is said to be given to senior-most leaders after the party president. Gorhe, a Member of Legislative Council joined the Eknath Shinde’s faction on Friday after switching from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT). She is the third MLC from Shiv Sena (UBT) to switch sides. This came on a day when Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said that around 17-18 MLAs from the Eknath Shinde faction were in touch with them.

Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar will kick-start his state tour on Saturday by holding a rally at Yeola in Nasik district, the constituency of rebel party leader and minister Chhagan Bhujbal. “He has said that he will meet people and rebuild everything. People stand behind this warrior and you will all see the grand reception he is going to receive,” said NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad. The rally comes amid a power struggle with his nephew Ajit Pawar who became the Deputy CM in the Shiva Shena-BJP government.

Dismissing that there has been a split in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Praful Patel, with Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar by his side, said that more than 40 MLAs support them and hence they have sought the name and symbol of NCP from the election commission. “NCP held a meeting on June 30 in presence of many MLAs and MLCs at Devgiri. In that meeting, Ajit Pawar was chosen as the leader. He then appointed Praful Patel as national working president. This is not a split. Legislative and organisations back Ajit Pawar with majority,” he said.
