When District 142 opened its doors in March, expectations were high for what it would bring to downtown Wyandotte, and for that matter the entire Downriver area.
However, like most new ventures, no one could be certain how well it would be received. But if the first six months is any indication, the future looks bright for the new live music and event venue.
In less than half a year, District 142 had nearly 25,000 people through its doors and over 100 bands perform on its stage.
With the promise to mainly be a rock- and country-based music venue, it has delivered by hosting concerts featuring country artists Joe Nichols, Kimberly Perry, Sammy Kershaw and Chase Wright; and rock legends Cinderella’s Tom Keifer, Stephen Pearcy of RATT, Alien Ant Farm, Eva Under Fire and Mark Farner’s All American Band.
Along with those artists, they sprinkled in an icon pop star like Joey McIntyre of the New Kids on the Block, and new wave band A Flock of Seagulls.
District 142 is using the occasion of its six-month anniversary to announce a couple of new features.
In addition to live concerts, its owners just announced they’re hosting Thursday Country Nights, presented by Lone River Ranch Water.
Country fans can break out their cowboy boots and hats for an evening of Line Dancing with Jenergy, live country bands, DJ, and on select nights performances from rising Nashville artists.
A kick-off party was held Sept. 21, in tandem with Wyandotte’s Fire & Flannel Festival. Cover charge and ticket rates will vary based on future Thursday Country Nights. Some blackout dates apply. Those who attend must be at least 21 with valid ID.
The other big announcement is that District 142 will soon be hosting weddings and corporate events in the reinvigorated, century-old building, with historic charm and modern industrial space. The space will be available on select dates.
The venue has teamed up with Cutting Edge Cuisine to create a unique culinary experience using fresh ingredients from local purveyors and presenting food in unique and unexpected ways. Rental inquiries can be made on the website at District142live.com.
You’ll also be able to find a complete listing of concerts and events on the venue’s website.
The box office is open from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. It also opens two hours prior to the doors on show days and remains open until the conclusion of that night’s show. District 142 is located at 142 Maple St.
