Polo G Hints At Retirement After ‘Hood Poet’ Album: ‘This Rap Sh-t Got So Lame’ – HipHopDX
Polo G has contemplated calling it quits on his burgeoning rap career because he feels as though the game itself has become stale.
The Chicago rapper took to Twitter on Thursday (August 17) to express his frustration at the current state of Hip Hop ahead of his new album, Hood Poet.
“This rap shit got so lame and watered down,” he said. “It ain’t no fun it no more.”
In a follow up tweet, Polo G turned his attention to his fans, saying: “Honestly after my Hood Poet album, I’m considering retiring from music [purple heart emoji, heart hands emojis] so I appreciate everybody riding for me 10 fold [tornado emoji].”

The 24-year-old recently channeled his inner Frank Ocean by launching a 24-hour livestream prior to the release of Hood Poet.
The stream, which has since ended, was broadcast on Polo’s YouTube channel, and captured Polo G spray painting the walls of an empty warehouse while surrounded by goats.
The idea was seemingly sparked by Frank Ocean, who hosted a mysterious, multi-day livestream in 2016 prior to the release of his visual album Endless.
Polo G also announced the release date for his upcoming project — September 15 — and shared a cinematic trailer showing the rapper delivering a weary yet powerful monologue on stage with knives sticking out of his back.
“Numb, but not completely,” he says in the video. “Numb enough to grow unphased from my self-inflicted wounds. Numb enough to struggle with the words, ‘I love you.’ Numb enough to be able to decline a good time, but not too dumb to feel my own strength.
“The strength built from letdowns to picking myself back up. The strength built from knives in my back that haven’t come out. The strength built on realizing all the wasted time I spent. I heard whispers, I heard cries, I heard gunshots through the night.”
He then spells out the backronym of his album title, saying: “He Overcame Obstacles During Pain Or Emotional Trauma, Hood Poet.”
Hood Poet will serve as Polo G’s first album in almost two years following Hall of Fame 2.0, which dropped in December 2021. Its predecessor arrived just months earlier and earned Polo both his first No. 1 album and first No. 1 single thanks to “Rapstar,” which has since been certified 6x platinum.
