The incident took place earlier this year in Hadapsar, a bustling neighborhood in Pune. Imtiaz Shaikh had seemingly provided a friendly loan of Rs 40,000 to the woman’s husband. However, when the couple faced financial difficulties and was unable to repay the loan, Shaikh’s benevolence turned into malevolence. He started harassing and threatening the couple, demanding the outstanding money with increasing aggression.

In February, Shaikh lured the couple to an isolated spot in the Hadapsar government colony under the pretense of discussing the loan matter. However, instead of resolving the issue amicably, he brandished a knife and intensified his threats, leaving the husband terrified for his life. Shockingly, in a cruel and depraved act, Shaikh proceeded to rape the woman right in front of her husband, adding further trauma to an already distressing situation. To exacerbate the horror, he recorded the heinous act on his phone in the form of an MMS (multimedia message) as a means of further tormenting the victims.

The accused didn’t stop at this abhorrent act of sexual violence. He continued to exploit the woman, coercing her into providing sexual favors repeatedly. When the brave woman refused to comply with his demands, he resorted to a despicable act of revenge. With utter disregard for the consequences, Shaikh decided to publicly shame the woman by posting the video of the rape on various social media platforms.

The victim, who had endured immense suffering, finally mustered the courage to approach the Hadapsar Police Station to seek justice. On Tuesday, she filed a complaint, recounting the harrowing details of her ordeal. The police took swift action and arrested the accused, Imtiaz H Shaikh. He was subsequently produced before the court, which granted a two-day remand for further investigations.
