Taylor Swift at Levi’s Stadium: Tailgating and bracelets banned – San Francisco Chronicle

As anticipation builds for Taylor Swift’s sold out Eras Tour stops at Levi’s Stadium next week, Santa Clara police and officials at the home of the 49ers have issued a stern warning to the tens of thousands of Swifties ready to descend on the venue, saying that tailgating will not be permitted during the events and individuals without valid tickets will not be allowed to gather in the parking lots or surrounding streets.

The pop star’s Eras Tour stops have consistently drawn massive crowds, with fans converging on the venues hosting her hours before the doors open, including those who don’t have tickets. The throngs have created major traffic issues.

“Tailgating is prohibited for the Taylor Swift concerts and there will be no designated viewing area outside of Levi’s Stadium,” officials said in a statement. “Fans without event tickets will not be permitted to congregate in parking areas or on the streets.”

Stadium officials also tweeted that “bracelets are not permitted in the stadium,” addressing a tradition of creating and exchanging friendship bracelets among Swift’s fans. The practice, likely inspired by the lyrics of her song “You’re on Your Own Kid” from her latest album “Midnights,” has become an integral part of the concert experience.

It was not immediately clear how stadium officials intend to enforce the ban.

As for the tailgating ban, the Santa Clara Police Department said it will take an “educational approach” to its enforcement of the policy.

Earlier this week, the Santa Clara City Council moved to honor the singer by naming Swift as honorary mayor during her time in the Bay Area. Santa Clara also plans to temporarily rename the city, home to Levi’s Stadium, “Swiftie Clara.”

The proclamation by Mayor Lisa Gillmor is meant to “celebrate the positive local impact to the Santa Clara community, as well as the impact regionally, of Taylor Swift’s music, tours, and extraordinary fanbase.”
