Trump campaign runs attack ads against DA as Twitter warrant revealed – live – The Independent

Trump claims Georgia DA had an affair with a gang member

Donald Trump is running a campaign ad attacking Fani Willis, the district attorney of Fulton County, Georgia, just days before she is expected to become the latest prosecutor to indict him.

The commercial, which is airing in Atlanta and other cities, takes shots at Ms Willis, who has been investigating the former president’s alleged attempts to overturn Joe Biden’s win in the swing state in 2020.

Ms Willis is believed to be ready to present charges in her investigation to a grand jury as soon as next week.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith, who has himself twice indicted Mr Trump already this year, obtained a search warrant for the ex-commander-in-chief’s Twitter account.

The platform, now called “X”, was prohibited from telling Mr Trump about the warrant and was fined $350,000 for failing to meet a deadline to produce records under court order.

A previously unseen legal memo has also surfaced sent by Kenneth Chesebro, a lawyer for the Trump 2020 re-election campaign, which lays out how the ex-president’s efforts to interfere with certification of that year’s Electoral College results in order to “buy time” and delay the joint session making Mr Trump’s defeat official.

Are we sure this strategy is entirely wise, sir?

New Trump ‘fake elector’ memo reveals plan to ‘buy time’ to overturn the 2020 election

A previously unseen legal memorandum by a lawyer from former president Donald Trump’s failed 2020 re-election campaign laid out how the ex-president’s efforts to interfere with certification of that year’s electoral college results were meant to buy time and delay the quadrennial joint session at which Mr Trump’s defeat to Joe Biden would be made final and official.

The memo, which was first reported on by The New York Times, was referenced in the four-count indictment returned against former president Donald Trump by a Washington DC grand jury last month. It was authored by Kenneth Chesebro, an attorney affiliated with the Trump campaign who is described — but not named — in the indictment as an un-indicted co-conspirator in Mr Trump’s alleged conspiracy to obstruct certification of the 2020 election.

Trump not expected to attend classified documents arraignment

Donald Trump is not expected to show up at arraignment on Thursday on a superseding indictment in the classified documents case after he already waived his right to attend.

His arraignment on three newly filed charges on the Mar-a-Lago documents case is scheduled for 10 August.

In a court filing last week, both Mr Trump and his legal representative relinquished the former president’s requirement to be present.

Mr Trump was charged with three superseding charges and another co-defendant, Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira was added to the indictment.

They have been accused of attempting to delete security footage and obstructing federal investigations after the government subpoenaed it in their investigation.
