Australian-Greek EDM icon VASSY has made history after she became the first woman to nab the prestigious Icon Award at the 2023 EDMAs in Miami back in March.
The singer-songwriter – real name Vassy Karagiorgos – has collaborated with the likes of Afrojack, David Guetta, and Tiesto, and recently made waves on the US dance charts with her song Pieces.

“It’s such an honour to receive the EDMA ICON Award,” she told Purple Sneakers following the epic win.
“To be recognised for my art and contribution to the Dance Community by my industry and the fans in the dance space is such a rewarding moment and monumental career highlight.”

“I thank everyone at Dance Radio across the US who has supported my music for years. I came to this country from a small town in Australia called Darwin, from a humble hard-working Greek family with a Dream to pursue my passion.”
VASSY continued, “I worked hard with integrity, it was not easy as it is a DJ-driven boys club genre but I stayed true to myself and the dance community at Radio really embraced me and gave me the platform to be myself and share my art with the world.”

It’s yet another achievement for the music star, whose track Pieces alongside Bingo Players and Disco Fries became the Most Added Dance Track In The U.S. and also the third most played song on dance radio in the US back in January.
“It’s so amazing to see that Pieces is the most added record at dance radio across the U.S. It was exciting news for us all when notified by Media-Base that the song was placed right next to Drake and Megan Trainor as most added songs at Radio nationally in the U.S. Now to see it climbing the charts & holding the #3 position (following David Guetta and Armin Van Buuren), as the most played song at dance radio across America is unreal,” says VASSY.
The track is an uplifting house track that utilises slick production from Bingo Players and pop textures by Disco Fries. It reflects on the power of love and the ability it has to lift any mood.
VASSY says, “We have all been in a place in our lives where we have felt lost, alone and incomplete. The song’s intention is to empower you and inspire you to conquer all your fears.”
