Jamie O’Hara criticises Marcus Rashford’s ‘mentality’ amid reports of night out hours after Man United’s defeat to Man City
Marcus Rashford’s mentality has been questioned amid reports he went on a night out hours after Manchester United’s defeat to Manchester City.
Man United were outplayed by their local rivals as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday, a match which saw Rashford cut a largely anonymous figure.
The Daily Telegraph reports that Rashford attended the popular Chinawhite nightspot in Manchester city centre hours after the defeat to celebrate his 26th birthday, which is on Tuesday.
The report adds that Rashford was there until ‘some time past midnight’ for the celebration that had been arranged prior to the match.
It’s understood the forward attended training with the Red Devils on time on Monday morning despite his reported late night. The club declined when asked for comment from the Telegraph.
But despite all this, talkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara, who admitted to frequenting London nightspots a little too much during his days at Tottenham, believes Rashford made a short-sighted decision as he suggested the player shouldn’t make the same mistakes as he did.
Reacting to the reports, O’Hara said on The Sports Bar: “Is there an unwritten rule, after a Manchester derby, in your own city and you’ve gone out?
“It’s not about whether they will fine him but it’s just about is it the right look? Especially with the way he’s playing right now.”
Co-host Jason Cundy responded: “It’s not a good look but he’s done nothing wrong.”
O’Hara said: “We’ve both played the game and we both love a night out, and there were times I’ve gone out and probably shouldn’t have gone out and I sit back when I get older and think I probably shouldn’t have gone out.

“Surely if you lose a Manchester derby you ain’t going out in Manchester? Get your mates round your house if you want a couple of beers.”
Cundy then said: “I’m not saying I agree with his decision. Professionally, should he have done that? Probably not but the club can’t come down on him unless there’s an in-house rule. What’s his crime?
O’Hara responded: “His crime is his mentality.”
Cundy said: “Are you saying you can only go out when you win?”
O’Hara replied: “No, what I’m saying is there’s morals to the fact that you are a prestige footballer and you’ve put in a shocking performance against your rivals in your city and then you’ve gone out until three o’clock in the morning.”
Rashford and Man United have endured a difficult season so far, having lost five of their ten Premier League matches.
The England international has just one goal and one assist from 13 appearances in all competitions this term.
