Open Forum: Rise above divided politics and vote wisely – The Winchester Star

BETSY BRUMBACK

The politics in this country and in this county are sorely divided. I suppose in some ways it has always been this way, but I do feel that Frederick County can rise above the national scene and just get down to business.

I would like to see cordial and productive meetings, not contentious battles and name calling. I really don’t care if you are Republican, Democrat or a Frederick First candidate. I want what is best for our Frederick County that many have come to love and call their home.

For many of us, we were born here and raised here, we were educated here, and we have chosen to remain here for work, raising our families and remaining here for retirement. Many of us know no other “home.”

For others, you may have been the world over and have landed here whether temporary or chosen. I would like to think you have chosen to raise your families here, chosen to work here, and chosen to retire here.

Regardless, we are all here, so let’s make the best of it and restore our county to the top of Virginia in civility, integrity, and economy.

I fully support Gary Oates as our chairman of the Boad of Supervisors. He has the experience and knows how the county government works and can lead us forward. He has been on multiple committees and can speak with authority on many of our county and state policies. As far as the business dealings, he is also a small business owner and has a successful business in land surveying.

Kevin Kenney (Gainesboro) brings a diverse experience in county-led projects and overwhelming knowledgeable of the county.

John Jewell (Back Creek) is the epitome of a gentlemen and of a leader. He is levelheaded and, with his diverse experience, can lead us forward with integrity.

Kirk Whittle (clerk of court) and Seth Thatcher (commissioner of the revenue) are both well experienced candidates and will need no time to “learn” their job as they already do it and know it. They are competent and efficient.

C. William “Billy” Orndoff, Jr. (Treasurer) is also a wealth of knowledge on the county, having served in his role for over 30 years.

Some have called these candidates opportunists and backdoor investors. Not hardly. These folks are hardworking, community serving, and loyal Frederick County residents.

They have the heart of a servant and only want what’s best for this county. I hope you, too, vote for the best and most experienced candidates on the ballot.

Betsy Brumback is a resident of Frederick County.
