A room with some blues
Roomful of Blues has had lineup changes over the course of more than 50 years, but it remains “one of the tightest, most joyful blues ensembles in the world,” according to Blues Magazine. They’re coming to fill the room at Off The Rails Music Venue Aug. 18. Led by guitarist Chris Vachon, longtime tenor and alto sax player Rich Lataille, and vocalist Phil Pemberton, the Rhode Island band’s latest Alligator Records release “In A Roomful Of Blues” has 13 wide-ranging songs, including 10 band-composed originals. The group has earned five Grammy Award nominations and a slew of other accolades, including seven Blues Music Awards.

Still rock ‘n’ roll to everyone
“Face 2 Face: Tribute to Elton John & Billy Joel“, set for Aug. 18 Indian Ranch in Webster, features Mike Santoro and Ronnie Smith in three show segments. First, Santoro belts out Billy Joel classics such as “Movin’ Out,” and “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant.” Smith dons the sunglasses and bedazzled suits of Elton John to perform hits such as “Tiny Dancer,” “Crocodile Rock” and “Bennie and the Jets.” For the third act, both tribute artists will go face to face ,as they hit the stage for the grand finale with more favorites.

Discover the winging-it world of birds during “Feather Fest,” an avian adventure Aug. 19 at the EcoTarium Museum of Science and Nature. Spy some frequent flyers, use tools to simulate birds’ eating habits, practice bird calls and warbles, and meet a favorite feathered friend.

Pride, pageantry
This year’s Pride Worcester Pageant is set for 6 p.m. Aug. 19 in Washburn Hall at Mechanics Hall. Produced by Queer the Scene, LLC with support from Pride Worcester, the pageant aims to showcase the diversity of and give a voice to the local LGBTQ+ community. Organizers said, “In our bid to be as inclusive as possible, we have replaced the system of traditional pageant categories with one with no categories.” All proceeds go to Pride Worcester. Must be 13 and older to attend without adult supervision.

Hair guitar
The Pike Hairfest returns Aug. 19 to Indian Ranch in Webster, featuring tributes to the great hair bands of the 1980s. The lineup includes Shot Of Poison (Poison tribute); The Priest (Judas Priest tribute); Welcome To The Jungle (Guns ‘n Roses tribute); Ozzmosis (Ozzy tribute); and The Four Horsemen (Metallica tribute). World-renowned photographer Mark Weiss will be selling and signing his book, “The Decade That Rocked,” at the merch booth. Weiss photographed some the biggest bands of the 80s.

Local favorites
Chuck and Mud and the Hole in the Dam Band will perform Aug. 20 at Powder Mill Park in Spencer as part of the Spencer Parks & Recreation Commission’s2023 Summer Concert Series. Chuck & Mud have been “Worcester’s folk duo” for over 40 years. Hole in the Dam Band features local favorites, including Walter Crockett and Peter Allard. Savage Wraps food truck will have refreshments available for sale.

Songs for the road
Award-winning Boston singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rachel Sumner has roots in bluegrass, classical and folk music. She performs at noon on Aug. 23 as part of The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts’ free outdoor Lunchtime Concert Series at the rededicated and newly-built Francis R. Carroll Plaza. Summer has recently been captivating audiences throughout the Northeast with her new band, Traveling Light. Food trucks will be available. Rain dates for lunchtime concerts are set for the following Friday.
